May Degusta Box Review: BBQ & Snacking!

I'm back with another Degusta Box review! This time I'm going to be sharing what's inside the May box, which has the theme of 'BBQ & Snacking'. The box is packed with lots of exciting treats again this month with everything from dressings to chocolate snacks, so I'm very excited to share what's inside and also let you know my thoughts on the products too!

About Degusta Boxes

Degusta Box are a monthly food and drink subscription service. Each box contains between 10-15 food and drink items which are guaranteed to exceed the value you've paid for the box, so you can always expect great value for money with this one. The boxes are currently priced at £12.99 per month, with free delivery included too. It's definitely a great subscription option for us foodies who love discovering new eats, I mean who doesn't want a mystery box full of food and drink turning up at their door every month? I know I definitely do!

YES! Snack Bars

First up in the box this month, we're getting a pack of 3 fruit & nut snack bars from the brand YES in either Dark Chocolate, Banana and Pecan or Dark Chocolate, Sea Salt and Almond, depending on your box. I received the Banana and Pecan flavour in mine and they were absolutely delicious! They had a lovely crunchy yet chewy texture and the banana flavour went perfectly with the rich dark chocolate.. such a tasty combo! The bars are definitely my kind of snack so I'll for sure be picking up some more in my next shop. I'm very intrigued to try the other flavour now too!

Besides the taste, another great thing about these that I have to mention is that they're wrapped in recyclable paper making them so much better for the environment than plastic wrappers! I love that brands are starting to make big changes with their packaging as it's such an important issue.

My rating: 10/10
Price: £2.99
Stockists: ASDA & Morrisons

Hartley's Juicy Jelly Pouches

Next up we're getting a box of 4 Strawberry Juicy Jelly Pouches from Hartley's which are made with real fruit, making them the perfect summer snack! Obviously these are usually aimed at children but I actually found them to be quite nice with a lovely refreshing Strawberry flavour. I probably wouldn't buy them again as I'm not a massive jelly lover but I bet they would go down really well with children, perfect for lunch boxes and on-the-go snacks!

My rating: 7/10
Price: £2.79
Stockists: Available in all major supermarket chains

Skinny Tonic Water

Next up in the box we're getting some more items perfect for this sunny weather, two Tonic Waters from Skinny Tonic in 2 flavours:

Indian - Sicilian Lemon, Bitter Orange and Thyme.
Mediterranean - Fresh Citrus, Thyme, Floral & Sweet Basil Notes.

I've enjoyed both of these in the garden throughout the past week and really liked them. I'm quite fussy with tonic water but the flavours in these two went together beautifully, particularly the Indian one with the lemon and orange flavours. The perfect refreshing drink for a hot day! My only complaint is that I wish the cans were a little bigger as they are quite small but apart from that I really enjoyed them.

My rating: 8/10
Price: 75p
Stockists: Available in BOOTHS and on Amazon

Lindt Lindor Milk Bar

Next up in the box we're getting a Lindor bar from my favourite ever chocolate brand, Lindt! For me nothing compares to their chocolate and the smooth melting texture they manage to create, so I was very happy to see a bar inside this month's edit. It was actually the first item I tried this month just a few hours after the box arrived, I definitely needed my Lindt fix haha!

If you haven't tried the Lindor bars before they have a layer of chocolate coating a delicious smooth chocolate filling.. creating the dream melt in the mouth chocolate bar. If you haven't had one yet then you definitely need too, I can't even imagine how many bars I've eaten over the years!

My rating: 10/10
Price: £0.85
Stockists: Available in all major retailers and online at www.lindt.co.uk

Hellmann's Salad Dressings

Also in the box we're getting two Salad Dressings from Hellmann's: Their Classic House Salad Dressing and a Fat Free Vinaigrette! Hellmann's are a brand we buy regularly from in our house, including the Classic House dressing which is perfect drizzled over a salad or a sandwich, finishing a lunch off perfectly!

I haven't had chance to try the Vinaigrette yet but I'll add in my thoughts here when I do!

My rating: 9/10
Price: £1.65
Stockists: Available in all major supermarket chains!

Barebells Hazelnut & Nougat Protein Bar

Next we're getting a Hazelnut and Nougat Protein Bar from the brand Barebells, who are a completely new brand to me! That's one thing I absolutely love about the Degusta Boxes, it's such a great way to try and discover lots of new brands in one go.

I had this just a few days ago and was really impressed! I'm usually not a fan of protein bars as I find they lack flavour but this one definitely didn't. The milk chocolate shell is filled with soft nougat, a caramel-infused center and then topped with roasted hazelnut nibs.. oh and 20g of protein! How great is that?

I honestly have nothing bad to say about the taste, it's definitely one of the best protein bars I've tried and so delicious! The only downside is that it is a pretty pricey bar at £2.50 however you can buy them in bulk boxes online and that works out a little cheaper.

My rating: 10/10
Price: £2.50
Stockists: Available at Sainsbury's and Amazon

Bull's-Eye BBQ Sauce

Also in the box we're getting a BBQ sauce from the brand Bull's-Eye! We're currently waiting to finish our current one before opening this but I'm very excited to as I love a good BBQ sauce and the reviews of this one sound very impressive! It's described as sweet yet bold and smoky, so I think it's going for be perfect for any upcoming Summer BBQ's. A great addition to this month's box as who doesn't love BBQ sauce?

Price: £2.49
Stockists: Available in all major supermarket chains

XITE Energy drinks

Next up in the box we're getting two cans of Energy Drink from the brand XITE, who are another new brand to me! They've created a healthier alternative to energy drinks currently on the market and use only natural caffeine and flavours to create a refreshing boost.

I was convinced I wasn't going to like these as I usually hate the taste of energy drinks but they really did prove me wrong, especially the Pink flavour which had a really nice natural fruity watermelon flavour and a lovely fizz to it. Nothing like your typical energy drink at all and so refreshing! I found the blue one did have a more typical energy drink flavour to it, it wasn't bad as such just not my preference personally!

Energy wise, I honestly did feel like I kept going for longer after these. It's obviously a little hard to tell with just two drinks but on first impressions I was really impressed. I would definitely repurchase the fruity pink flavour, not so much the blue one though!

My rating: Pink 10/10, Original Blue 6/10
Price: £1.49
Stockists: Available at Holland & Barrett and WHSmiths

Beronia Rioja Crianza

Next up in the box we're getting a Rioja Crianza from the brand Beronia! I don't tend to drink darker wines but I'll definitely give it a try in this sunshine. It's described as intensely fruity with blackberry and strawberry characters, and hints of vanilla and spice from ageing in mixed French and American oak barrels for 12 months before bottling!

Price: £2.99 for 18.75cl or £11.79 for 75cl
Stockists: Available at Waitrose, Ocado and Tesco

Mission Street Tacos

Lastly in the box this month are two packs of soft tacos from the brand Mission, who are a brand we already know and love in this house! We're getting two varieties: Original and Mex Chilli & Lime. I've had the original before but not the Mex Chilli & Lime, so I was very intrigued to give a new flavour a try! We used them a few nights ago when making fish tacos and they were delicious. Super soft as always but packed with tasty mexican flavour, they have a nice bit of heat to them from the chilli too but without being overly spicy!

My rating: 10/10
Price: £1.20
Stockists: Available at Morrisons and Sainsbury's

..and that's it! I hope you enjoyed hearing about what's inside the April Degusta Box and my thoughts on a few of the products. My top pick for this month has to be the Hazelnut Protein Bar from Barebells which was so tasty, it definitely pleasantly surprised me!

Let me know in the comments if you've tried any boxes from Degusta before and your thoughts?
