September Degusta Box: Family Sharing & Home Cooking

It's time for another Degusta Box review! This time I'm going to be sharing what's inside the September box, which has a theme of Family Sharing and Home cooking. The box is packed with so much this month with everything from drinks to sauces, so I'm very excited to share what's inside and also let you know my thoughts on the products too!

{ This post contains PR samples }

About Degusta Boxes

Degusta Box are a monthly food and drink subscription service. Each box contains between 10-15 food and drink items which are guaranteed to exceed the value you've paid for the box, so you can always expect great value for money with this one. The boxes are currently priced at £12.99 per month, with free delivery included too. It's definitely a great subscription option for us foodies who love discovering new eats, I mean who doesn't want a mystery box full of food and drink turning up at their door every month? I know I definitely do!

What's inside the box?

Milky Bar Buttons

First up in the box are two 30g packs of Milky Bar buttons, which I was very happy to see in the box as I'm a sucker for Milkybar chocolate, white chocolate is my favourite kind! The 30g bags are a great size too, perfect for snacking on when you're wanting a chocolate fix. They're also great for kids too as they contain no artificial colours, flavours or preservatives!

Retail Price: 55p per bag & available in all major supermarkets and independent stores.

Eisberg Alcohol Free Rosé

Next up in the box this month we have a bottle of Alcohol Free Sparkling Rosé from the brand Eisberg, which has fruity notes or red cherry and strawberry. I was a little speptical that this would taste like wine without any alcohol in it but it really is just like the real thing, I honestly couldn't tell the difference between this and a bottle of Rosé.. my family said exactly the same too. It had a really nice rich flavour with juicy hints to the taste and was definitely a winner with all of us. If I was given this after ordering a glass of wine I wouldn't bat an eyelid, so if you're looking for an alternative I can definitely recommend giving this one a try!

Retail Price: £4 & available at Morrisons and Ocado

Hartleys Strawberry Jelly

Also in the box we are getting a pack of three Strawberry Jelly Pots from Hartley's which is not the most exciting to me as an adult but it's perfect for kids, whether that's for a snack or an after tea-time dessert. It's great that we're getting three whole pots inside the box too, meaning more value for money for us, yay!

Retail Price: 55p for a single pot & available in all major supermarkets.

Riso Gallo Risotto Rice

Next up we are getting a box of Risotto Rice from the brand Riso Gallo, who are a completely new brand to me. That's one thing I love about Degusta box, it's such a great way to try out lots of new brands in one place and at a more affordable price! The Riso Gallo rice is selected from the best rice fields in Italy and has a plump stubby grain with a high starch content, which helps to give it a good balance of creaminess and bite. I haven't had the chance to try this one yet but I'm very excited to give it a go, there's also a recipe card included in this month's box for a Pea and Cherry Tomato Risotto, which I'll definitely be using when I try it!

Retail Price: £2.29 and available in all major supermarkets

Epicure Pesto

Also in the box we are getting a jar of Pesto from the brand Epicure in one of five flavours:

Chermoula
• Zhoug
• Mojo Verde
• Chakalaka
• Chimichurri

So there's a really good mix divided into the boxes this month, which are all inspired by flavours from around the world including Africa, The Middle East and The Canary Islands! I received the Zhoug pesto in my box which is a Corriander and Green Chilli pesto and I've really enjoyed trying it! It has a really tasty spicy corriander flavour without being overly spicy that it ruins the flavour, it does have quite a kick to it still though so if you don't like spice then you're probably best giving it a miss. I love it though, especially stirred into pasta as a sauce or used as a dip with nacho chips, it's also amazing with Halloumi too and compliments that cheese flavour really well! I'll definitely be buying another jar in the near future as it's gone down a treat with my whole family and can be used in so many ways.

Retail Price: £2.99 and available on Ocado & farm and independent shops.

CHUM Fruit Bites

Next up we are getting two bags of Fruit Bites from the brand CHUM in the flavours Peach and Berry. These are 100% fruit bites and they're slowly baked to retain the vitamins, proteins and fibre, they are also 1 of your 5 a day too which is amazing! I've only tried the Berry bag so far but they were very good, with a really nice natural fruity blackberry, pear and apple flavour. Aswell as the taste another great thing about this brand is that 15% of the profits go to Wild Aid to help save our animals, so you're helping an amazing cause whilst buying a snack, which I love!

Retail Price: 79p and available at www.chumbites.com , Amazon, Ocado and selected independent shops.

Alpen Protein Bars

Also in the box are two new protein bars from the brand Alpen, who are a brand I already love! We're getting two flavours this month: Berries & Yogurt and Chocolate so we get a good little mix to taste test, perfect for finding out your favourite before potentially purchasing more! Alpen's new protein bars are designed to help you feel fuller for longer compared to most cereal bars that aren't so filling and are packed with rolled oats and crunchy wholegrain wheat flakes, which create a great balance of crunch and chew! I really enjoyed both the flavours, especially the Yogurt and Berries bar which has a really nice creamy base that compliments the fruit really well. My only complaint is that I would of liked a little more fruit in the bar as it was definitely quite sparse but apart from that I have no complaints!

Retail Price: £2.69 for a multipack of 5 bars & available at Tesco, Morrisons and Asda.

Very Lazy Garlic Paste

Next up we are getting a tube of Very Lazy Garlic Paste which sounds perfect for quick cooking when you're in a rush and don't have time to be messing around with Garlic. I haven't tried this one myself yet as I've been away a lot the past few weeks but I'm very intrigued to give it a try! It's definitely a very handy addition to this month's box that sounds ideal for quick and easy cooking.

Retail Price: £1.85 & available at Tesco and Ocado.

Lucazade Zero

Also in the box we are receiving a huge 1L bottle of Lucazade Zero in one of two flavours: Pink Lemonade or Orange! I'm not really a big energy drink fan and prefer more natural drinks so I love that we are recieving the Zero bottle instead, which still has that same Lucazade taste but without the added sugar which makes it more refreshing and a little lighter tasteing, so I am definitely on board with that! My personal favourite was the Pink Lemonade which has a lovely lemon and red berry flavour, it's fruity and refreshing and still has that great fizziness to it that you find in a regular Lucazade but without being overly sweet! I would definitely pick up another bottle in the future, especially during the summer months when you're wanting something extra refreshing in the warm weather.

Retail Price: £1.99 & available at all major supermarkets and independent retailers.

Appy Kids Co Yummy Bakes

Next up we have a box of Raspberry Yummy Bakes from the brand Appy Kids Co, who are another completely new one to me!  We're getting a box of five bars included in the box this month, which is amazing and means you get a really good chance to try them properly. The bars are made with real fruits, fortified with fibre and baked with wheat and oats, they don't have any artificial flavours, colours or preservatives and are free from Palm Oil meaning they're better for the planet and also a healthier option for us too! They're obviously aimed more for kids with the fun Paw Patrol packaging but I actually really enjoyed them too, they have a really soft outer layer filled with a very nice Raspberry filling, which is almost jam like but without being overly sweet. I love the combination, so I'm sure kids would definitely be a fan of these - perfect for lunch boxes or for on-the-go snacking!

Retail Price: £1 & available at TJ Morris.

Boka Cereal Bars

Lastly we're getting two cereal bars from the brand Boka in the flavours Caramel and Choco Mallow! The Boka bars are unique in having the '4 green traffic lights' meaning they're low in sugar, fats and salt, making them the perfect healthy snack option. Aswell as being healthy they also taste really good too.. you honestly wouldn't know these were healthier when tasting them if you didn't know the facts beforehand! Both of the bars had a nice chewy texture and were full of flavour, I especially enjoyed the Caramel bar which had a very tasty sweet creamy caramel flavour.. I'll definitely be buying it again!

Retail Price: 79p per bar or £2 for a multipack of 4 and available at Sainsbury's and Amazon.

..and that's everything! I can't believe how many products are packed into this month's box, it's definitely one of my favourites yet with such a good variety of products. My top pick from the September box has to be the Zoug Pesto which I can't wait to keep eating and will definitely be buying again!

Let me know in the comments if you've tried any boxes from Degusta Box before and your thoughts?

  3. I'm sold on the Rose! I normally can't stand wine, but it sounds lovely and fruity ) the only kind of wine I can drink!). I have tried that garlic paste, and it's soooo helpful when you can't be bothered to peel, chop and crush up fresh garlic. It makes life a lot easier when you want to be quicker or just don't really feel like standing there for an hour cooking. This sounds like a great monthly subscription box, I might have to try it!

  7. That alcohol free rose would be a great option for anyone that doesn't drink (like me!) I've also been eating a LOT of those mini button packs lately... whoops! And I'm definitely going to check out that risotto. I love risotto but can rarely find any in the shops, especially any which have interesting flavours!

  8. When I first heard of Degusta Box, it made me sad that I don't live in the UK anymore - a food subscription box sounds right up my alley! My favourites are the alcohol-free rosé and the Zhoug pesto - I've never tried alcohol-free wine before, so it would definitely be interesting!
