Behind the blog: Black tulip beauty

Today I'm going to be sharing the next post in my behind the blog series, and todays is going to be in collaboration with Alice from the blog Black Tulip Beauty, who is a 22 year old blogger from Bristol. She started up her own blogging site in August 2017 and hasn't looked back since! Her blog name is Black Tulip Beauty: Black as she's a lover of alternative fashion, rock music and tattoos, Tulip as it’s a family nickname and Beauty as it started as a beauty blog! So, let's find out a bit more about her and her blog..

Tell me more about your blog?

As I said, it started off as solely a beauty blog but I was diagnosed with a chronic illness soon after starting it up which caused me to stop for a while. When I came back, I went self-hosted and decided to get rid of my niche but keep my name. Now I just say I’m a “little bit of everything” blogger and I love it that way!

What inspired you to start blogging?

I started working at The Body Shop, figured out I had a bit of a knack for makeup and completely fell in love with all things beauty! I had barely anyone around me who was into it as much so I thought it’d be great to share my enthusiasm with people online!

Besides blogging, what else do you enjoy doing in your spare time?

I’ve always been a huge music lover and I studied to be a professional singer at university (which I didn’t end up completing, oops). So I love to sing and jam with my boyfriend. I also love walking my dog and have recently gotten back into photography!

What are your favourite and least favourite things about blogging?

My favourite thing is simply creating and uploading posts! I’m loving my content right now and am super proud of my development over the past few months. Least favourite thing is the drama and people who try and cheat their way to the top, nothing good ever comes of it!

What's been your greatest blogging achievement so far?

Probably my collaboration with Boohoo! Still pinching myself.

Do you have any holy grail beauty items?

Ooh the revolution conceal and define concealer, couldn’t live without it!

How do you stay motivated and organised with your blog?

By having a strict schedule and planning my content in advance. Because I don’t have a niche I feel like I can write about whatever I want which really helps if I’m struggling with writers block as I can just switch over to another subject!

If you could only buy from one beauty brand for the rest of your life, which would it be and why?

Surprisingly right now it’d have to be Revolution, they’re just completely killing the makeup game at the moment. The price of their products is so good, too!

Describe your fashion style?

Gothic glam 😎

Which Disney character do you relate to the most, and why?

Belle - quiet, hardworking, loves a challenge and learning new things and feels very out of place the majority of the time.

Where has been your favourite travel destination so far?

Ooh I’d probably just say all the places I’ve been in Italy! My favourite country by far.

What's been your favourite blog post you've published so far and why?

Probably part 1 & 2 of my diagnosis story for IBD. They got so much love and it took a lot of courage to post my story but it feels so good to be raising awareness!

What advice do you have for any new bloggers?

Don’t rush it, don’t cheat your way in, don’t expect an instant following or gratification and don’t do it for “free stuff”. You need to engage with other people and learn from them. You also can’t expect to be an expert straight away, you need to take your time to develop and find your style!

  3. I love Alice's blog and this was SUCH a good interview! I'm really enjoying this series so far, Kate! :) I'm totally the same as Alice in that because I blog about whatever I want I can schedule and plan in advance because I have such a range of things to talk about. I can also totally relate to feeling like Belle; a bit out of place all the time!

  5. I really love this series, I am learning so much about so many bloggers I didn't know before! I absolutely love Alice's photos, they are stunning. And I'm with her on Italy, it's the most beautiful country! I also love Alice's advice about planning out content in advance (I still struggle with this after 2.5 years haha!) and having a variety of topics to talk about. Great post as always!
